SENATORS' STATEMENTS

Pursuant to Rule 43(7), the Honourable Senator St. Germain, P.C, gave notice that he would raise a question of privilege concerning a news release sent out by a Member of the House of Commons, Mr. Murray Calder, on June 3, 2002, with reference to a ``deal'' struck between the Minister of Justice and the Liberal Rural Caucus regarding an amendment to Bill C-15B, An Act to amend the Criminal Code (cruelty to animals and firearms) and the Firearms Act.

Presentation of Reports from Standing or Special Committees

The Honourable Senator Taylor, Chair of the Standing Senate Committee on Energy, the Environment and Natural Resources, presented its Thirteenth Report (Bill C-10, An Act respecting the national marine conservation areas of Canada), without amendment.

The Honourable Senator Taylor moved, seconded by the Honourable Senator Milne, that the Bill be placed on the Orders of the Day for a third reading at the next sitting.

The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.

The Honourable Senator Kirby moved, seconded by the Honourable Senator Pépin:

That notwithstanding the Order of the Senate adopted on April 25, 2002, the Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology, which was authorized to examine and report on Bill S-12, An Act to amend the Statistics Act and the National Archives of Canada Act (census records), be empowered to present its final report no later than September 30, 2002.
